Youth Oratorical Masters Initiative (YOMI)

The Youth Oratorical Masters Initiative (YOMI) program engages and trains young people in the art of public speaking. The YOMI curriculum focuses on researching and writing speeches, building confidence, developing techniques, and speaking eloquently and coherently in front of audiences. Students will view, analyze, and explore the styles and content development of orators past and present to create versatility in the body of a speech as well as discovering “their voice” in the presentation. The YOMI six-session courses develop the students’ skills in public speaking and personal communications. The 2011 sessions begin January 8th and October 8th, 2011. YOMI is also one of the selection pools for youth who participate in the Ritz Annual Black History Oratorical Competition.
