Along This Way

James Weldon Johnson Stars at the Ritz 006.jpgThe Ritz Theatre and Museum, in partnership with Wells Fargo, presents an exciting Social Studies – American History Museum program: Along This Way.  The program begins with the special delivery of a 1930s trunk to the classroom with a message from James Weldon Johnson, a noted figure from Jacksonville history, starting students on a journey through the Harlem Renaissance period in Jacksonville, Florida. With an innovative series of curriculum-based interactive lessons using the museum’s African American history collection as a resource, Along This Way is an engaging learning experience from a historical and cultural perspective.

The Trunk, containing a Teacher’s Guide, Student handbooks, replicas of memorabilia and primary source materials, will arrive 7-10 school days before the scheduled field trip to the museum.

Selected standards-based activities presented in individual keepsake sourcebooks prepare students for their visit to the museum.

During the museum visit, docents will guide students through specific standards-based activities.

Following the museum visit, teachers may coordinate optional post-museum activities through the downtown Jacksonville Public Library.

Each museum field trip is approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes.

Maximum group size is 60 students.

The Museum entrance fee is $3.00 per student.  Limited funding is available to assist with entrance fees, so please inquire and schedule your tour early.  Transportation is the responsibility of the teacher.
